We’re excited to share that EPIC Lab alumni Max Shepherd and Keaton Scherpereel, along with current lab member Ethan Schonhaut, have published a new Perspective in Nature Machine Intelligence exploring the future of AI-powered control for lower-limb exoskeletons.
The paper examines how moving beyond task-specific control toward AI-driven systems that continuously adapt to human movement could make exoskeletons more flexible, robust, and capable of supporting diverse users, movements, and environments. The Perspective also highlights key challenges that remain, including safety, optimization, and the need for efficient approaches to collecting training data.
